Tree Listening is an exploratory practice manifesting in a variety of works, residencies and workshops.

“Our entire future may depend on learning to listen” - Adrienne Maree Brown

In a world of busy-ness I am wanting to create a space for audiences to breath, listen, tree bathe & (ultimately) consider what we listen to (surround ourselves with).

If you stop, you differentiate between the leaf rustle of different trees. If you place a stethoscope on the trunk of a tree, you can hear the clicking of water running up its trunk. By listening to trees, your heartbeat slows, you notice the small, the detailed, the natural.

Children and nature have a special connection. A place of discovery, exploration, animism, story & play - their imaginings and curiousity reveal perspective shifting, layered: sometimes funny and sometimes profound.

For the 2020 City of Stirling Tree Trail, a pilot installation was developed for families to listen. In 2023, I am an Artist in Residence for Fremantle Biennale at East Hamilton Primary School. Together we are listening & learning about The Moodjar Tree & developing a project that amplifies the tree’s “voice”.

Tree Listening, much like “What Does the World Need To Hear?” or “aMoment”, will be a practice that manifests in different ways - with the aim of developing a large-scale installation in the future.
